Do you mean like have a guitar and piano tab combined in a single tab?

When creating a tab, guitar and bass instruments appear in the drop down, but insist that your tab must be a guitar tab(not a piano tab), and I would assume that these instruments produce guitar and bass sounds, and currently it impossible to preview a piano tab with these sounds.

Or, you could always just make "guitar" an option for keyboard tabs.

This is an interesting idea. Really we're dual purpose using the "instrument" drop down as both the type of tab (piano/gtr/drum/etc) and the voice (organ/synth/etc), which is why you presently can't play a piano tab with a guitar voice (and vice versa). I'd hate to add another drop down to select the type of tab and the voice for the tab though, as we're trying to keep the pages simple for ease of use. There's probably a better alternative though, let us marinate on this for a bit.

BA: i was thinking a bit about 2 different interfaces, a easy ( for not-registered members ) and a more advanced with those options for the registered users. Or maybe a knob in the Member Studio that saves your preferances..

How about putting multiple instruments in a single tab? You could compose an entire song, using letters for the different instruments, like P = piano, G = guitar, D=drums
P5|a-a-a-a-a--a------- Ge|-0-0-0-1-1-1------- Gb|-------------------- Gg|-------------------- Gd-------------------- Ga|-------------------- Ge|-------------------- D|... however drum tabs work... :?

I think that would be annoying.
And i think it's hard to have multiple tracks in MIDI..
i was thinking about:
<guitar> guitar lines here </guitar> <keyboard> keyboard tab here </keyboard>
etc

Multitracks for multi instruments would be good! But don't mix tab types like slippy instead stick with regular piano tab, just add an addicional indicator for the instrument, like
P5|a-a-a-a-a--a------- (this is piano line) G5|----a-c-a--c-a-c--- (guitar line) D2|a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a (drum)
etc

Multitracks is supported in the midi to piano tab converter, so it only makes sense that is should go the other way too. Of course the midi converter outputs a format like this:
2:3|--a-a-a- 3:2|a-a-a-a-
But I like the other options proposed as well. We'll think about what format best makes sense, but good ideas guys, keep them coming!

MULTITRACK IS UP!
We went with the last suggestion, so you can specify your instruments using the following format:
P5|a-a-a-a-a--a------- (piano) G5|----a-c-a--c-a-c--- (guitar) D2|a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a (drum)
OR you can specify any of the 128 midi voices like so:
1:5|a-a-a-a-a--a------- 22:5|----a-c-a--c-a-c--- 97:2|a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a
We'll get a complete instrument list up later. Enjoy, and can't wait to hear what you guys do with this!
