Just learn the song's chords to start with. A lot of songs can be simplified a LOT by learning the chords.
Specifically, the 4 chords that make up every single pop song.

Start slow and simple. Try to play a small piece of the song, like the intro or chorus, and simplify it to the most prominent notes. As you play it over and over you can add in additional notes and complexity with each iteration.
