As Mars Rover Touches Down, Video Gets Taken Down



We reported a few weeks ago about how YouTube promptly yanked a perfectly legitimate video of Obama singing because of an over-reaching claim of copyright by music publisher BMG. Though the videos were eventually restored, it is becoming increasingly apparent that YouTube's take down policy gives publishers and owners an enormous amount of control to remove any content on the web that they do not like.

Recently a NASA-made public domain video posted on NASA's official YouTube channel, documenting the landing of a $2.5 billion Mars rover mission paid for with public taxpayer money, was blocked by YouTube because of a copyright claim by a private news service...
