Glasses to Augment Audio

Researchers from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) in Daejeon are working on developing glasses that would allow the wearer to see sounds. The glasses are intended to help deaf people regain their lost sense by displaying a visual cue when a sound occurs and giving the wearer a sense of the direction it came from.

The project bears some similarities with Google's own 'glass' project, which could prove to be a challenge for the Korean team when it comes time to play the patent game. Google's glasses (still in the early prototype stage) will contain not only a processor and multiple microphones, but also a small speaker, a camera, wireless radios and multiple sensors including a gyroscope.
