Driving Under the Influence of Music...is actually a good thing, according to this researcher.
Ayça Berfu Ünal conducted her PhD research in the Department of Social Psychology at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. Her thesis, entitled 'Please Don't Stop the Music… The influence of music and radio on cognitive processes, arousal and driving performance', claims that listening to music while driving does not distract the driver or negatively affect their abilities, and that in fact:
"...Music helps drivers to focus, particularly on long, monotonous roads...Test subjects enjoyed listening to the music and did their utmost to be responsible drivers. They sometimes drove better while listening to music."
