Right Brain Hears Things Differently From the Left

Georgetown Univeristy released a study back in October that found that what you hear is altered depending on what your hands are doing, and that the two halves of your brain hear things very differently.

Language is processed mainly in the left hemisphere, though researchers aren't sure why. The findings help to further our understanding of the organization of our auditory systems and their interact with our motor systems.

"Since the left hemisphere controls the right hand and vice versa, these results demonstrate that the two hemispheres specialize in different kinds of sounds -- the left hemisphere likes rapidly changing sounds, such as consonants, and the right hemisphere likes slowly changing sounds, such as syllables or intonation," according to Peter E. Turkeltaub, M.D., Ph.D., a neurologist in the Center for Brain Plasticity and Recovery.
